| English for
Foreign Assignees Bi-Lingua was founded
with the mission of teaching foreign languages to British business
and professional people. But as business went global, many companies found it advantageous to employ native foreign speakers with a good knowledge of English, or to "import" them from the company's offices abroad.
A good idea, but one which brings its own problems. Often the employee or the company have been forced to realise that what passed for good English in the assignee's native country is not adequate for day-to-day interaction with colleagues or clients in Britain. And indeed many assignees insist on English lessons for themselves or their family as a pre-condition for accepting the assignment.
Unfortunately a conventional language school class is not the answer. These classes are mainly full of teenagers and lessons take place on a fixed timetable during working hours. The tuition is not geared to workplace situations and is not a practical solution for someone who has come here to work.
Bi-Lingua English teachers come to the
company at times to suit you, before, during or after work.
They are guaranteed to have an English-teaching
qualification and/or at least 5 years' experience.
Our teachers are experienced in
workplace teaching and can help the student with such
problems as social interaction with colleagues, coping with
difficult accents, rehearsing presentations, writing
reports, and so on.
In addition, assignees are often accompanied by spouses and children. The spouse is frequently left at home, isolated in an unfamiliar country without the necessary English to make friends or contacts, afraid even to answer the door-bell! Regular visits from a Bi-Lingua English teacher can solve this problem and raise morale, so that the assignee does not have to concern himself with domestic matters and can concentrate on the job. And when the children have to be put in school, our teachers can provide extra help with their English so they do better at school. (Result: happier and more productive assignees!).
Bi-Lingua can take over where the
relocation agent leaves off, and thus become a valuable
string to the bow of your HR department.
